Sugar is a sweet and appetizing flavor. Many of us eat way too much of the sweet stuff, and some of us are eating more than we think.
We give sugary sweet to our children, family, and friends for special occasions, celebrations, and as a reward. Unfortunately, sugar causes our bodies to go haywire. Not only does sugar spike our energy, it sets us up for a major crash. I am sure many of us have witnessed children "high" on sugar; running around screaming, bouncing around like a ping-pong ball. As many of us know, the foods we eat today are not the foods our grandparents and great-grandparents ate. Due to over-farming, the use of pesticides and genetically modified organisms (GMO'S) our foods don't have the nutrient quality it use to have. While sugar may taste appealing to most, it is depleting our bodies of very important nutrients. Our bodies are being depleted of vitamins C, Calcium, Chromium, copper, and magnesium. These micronutrients protect us from cardiovascular disease, different cancers, bone and teeth formation, assist in insulin function, energy production, regulation of body temperature and blood pressure, to name a few. Aside of typical table sugar, other variations are dumped into many of out foods unnoticed. Sugar comes in various names like high fructose syrup. maltose, carob syrup, beet sugar, evaporated cane juice, maltodextrin, rice syrup, fruit juice concentrate, and many many more. We all need to be diligent in what we feed our families and friends. Taking time to read labels and understanding the jargon will truley pay off in the long run. We can be sweet without eating sweet!!
